50 Ways To Better Business: #17: Protect Your Data

Protect Your Data

As the new year is just around the corner this is an excellent time to go over the processes you and your organization have in place when it comes to protecting your data.

Create a simple list of questions:
1. When was the last time you backed you all your data?

2. What service or application are you using to back up your data?

3. When was the last time you recovered your data from any previous data?

4. Where is the backed up data store (on-site or off-site)?

5. Who has access to the data back-ups?

6. Who should have access to the data back-ups and who should not?

7. Who knows how to recover the data?

8. Who should know how to recover the data?

9. When is the next time your data will be backed up?

These are questions that need to answered today, tomorrow, and every day after that. The questions are the kind of questions that must be reviewed and refined on a consistent and constant basis.

I will go deeper into some of these questions in the coming days. However, in the mean time please go back up your data, that's the only way I know to keep it safe and available when you need it.

Until Tomorrow,
