Every business owner, crew chief, section leader, and manager have one thing in common: At one point in their career found it difficult to say NO.
They found it difficult to say NO when it came to keeping employees happy, ensuring the customer is right, or promoting their business.
However, the sooner everyone recognizes that sometimes no matter what you say or do an employee will be unhappy, the customer will be wrong, or that you weren't actually promoting your business.
It is OK to say "NO". I know you don't need my permission to say NO. I also know that there are some of you just don't want to say NO.
Just remember that while you are saying the word "YES" you are silently saying NO.
• While you made one employee happy, you made another employee unhappy.
• While you made certain the customer was right, another customer went away mad because of the time and energy you spent on "wronged" customer.
• You sponsored some event only to drive more traffic to the organization or individual that ran the event as they were seen as the ones who could get people in and all you got was expensive table, a mediocre meal, stale jokes, lame speeches and at best your logo (which was smaller than the one on your biz card) on a sponsor recognition card mixed in with ALL the other organizations that sponsored a table or key contributors to the event.
IMPORTANT: Don't get me wrong GIVE, DONATE, and SPONSOR because you really want to and really believe in the cause or event but DO NOT DO IT if all you want is to get some recognition or publicity because if you are NOT the top contributor or the honoree you really are NOT going to get squat.
Is all that worth the heartache? NO!
Look over each situation and weigh it on its own merits. Decide the best course of action to take, then Take It, even if the answer is NO.
Until Tomorrow,
