50 Ways To Better Business: #37: About Negativity

About Negativity

As I mentioned last time focusing on what does not work is not a good thing, especially when you are trying to build or rebuild a business.

Then again, I also mentioned that focusing on what does not work is a good thing in that you can work to fix that which is broken.

So, there is a place in your organization for negativity. Negativity, however should not be all consuming. It should NOT be the vehicle that you, your staff, or your organization would be known by.

Ultimately, you will need a little negativity in your organization to drive your motivation to make it a better place to want to work at. Keep you negativity in check. You will also have to work harder to keep the negativity of your co-workers (peers and subordinates) in check.

I am NOT advocating you hide your negativity from your co-workers. What I am advocating is to not be afraid to show them that you are a real human being. Remember, in the right doses negativity is a great component of your passion for your business. It was that passion that started your business and kept you and your business going.

So don't be afraid to have a small amount of controlled negativity in your day to day operations. However, do not, ever, let that negativity consume you, your staff, and your business.
