50 Ways To Better Business: #39: Are You Doing The Same Exact Thing Over And Over Again?

Are you and your business doing the same thing over and over again and each time expecting a different result?

You do know that's the definition of being crazy? It really is.

Look at it this way, you see a moth flying around a light bulb, at night, and every time it gets too close to the bulb the heat it generates burns it. Yet, the moth keeps trying to land on it and it keeps getting burned. Well the moth knows no better, seriously its brain is about the size of a pinhead, so it keeps doing what it knows (instinct or not).

However, as a business owner or manager what's your excuse?

The time to change things is NOW, especially if what you are doing is not working.

How do you change something that you have been doing the same way for so long?

Simple. Try doing it backwards. Backwards?

Yes, look at those things that are not working from the customer's side. Are they getting what the product or service they are expecting? Are they getting served the way they expect to be served? Are they being understood?

Then work your way back to your employee side of things and then continue backwards to the policy and procedure manual. At some point backwards you will see what is happening, why it's happening and how to change it.
