50 Ways To Better Business: #45: Be Prepared

In this 24/7 always on world there are very few things that catch us off guard. However, for some strange reason or another many individuals and organizations are still caught off guard, unprepared, if you will by weather events (severe storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, extreme heat, extreme cold, and so on).

Seriously, in 2013 how can anyone still get caught off guard? We have doppler radar that can show us a storm forming over 286 miles away, we have weather satellites that can show a dust cloud blowing off the coast of the African continent and watch it all the way into the Gulf of Mexico and form as a Hurricane. We have the Internet with its Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, giving us constant updates from real human beings as situations unfold and we still have people caught with their pants down.

Folks, there is absolutely no need to be unprepared. There is a CONSTANT need to stay INFORMED and BE PREPARED. Any business owner, worth his salt wants to make certain that they are on top of the latest news and weather. Especially, when either one of those things can directly impact your business in either a positive or negative manner.

If you are reading this online (and you most certainly are) then you are already halfway to being prepared and informed. Keep It Up!

Did you know that you can set your web browser to open multiple pages at one time? Yep, with tab browsing you can have multiple pages open when you start Firefox or Chrome or Internet Explorer. As a rule since tab browsing became the norm I have had either WeatherUnderground.com or Weather.com as one of the pages that opens along with either CNN.com or USATODAY.com and of course my personal website.

What I am getting at is that each morning after I have fired up my PC I know I am going to get access to the latest information in the form of NEWS and WEATHER long before I even think of turning on my television. That way I am not blindsided by the sudden down pour on my way home from work or wondering why the store shelves are empty and not a single size D Battery can be found.

Remember: "Life is unpredictable.  And there’s a big difference between being scared and being prepared.  Always be prepared."
