The long awaited end of the day arrives and you are ready to pack it in! You've been ready to call it a day since around 0-Dark-30. That's OK the time has come to go and there is no looking back or is there?
Just the other day, I left work and about halfway home I had this feeling overcome me. It was a feeling that I had something still left to do. As I drove further and further away from the office the feeling remained. No matter what I did I could not shake it. It was that nagging feeling that I completely overlooked something.
The rest of the evening was uneventful. I slept like a baby yet there was still something in the back of my mind but it was quickly replaced by sleep.
When I woke up, it was there again. Will there was damaging to do until I got to the office. If that's what that nagging feeling was about it was going to have to wait until I got there.
I arrived, opened the office, turn on the lights, fired up the PC, poured myself a cup of coffee, and settled in to get the business day started.
Around 930 AM, I get a phone call. It was someone I spoke to yesterday around midday. They call to say they did not receive an e-mail I sent. Strange, I know I wrote it, I know hit send, was this the nagging feeling?
So I started the e-mail program. Once loaded, the inbox showed me notification of an undeliverable message.
It seems that I placed a comma instead of a period between the first name and the last name of the individual that I was sending the message to.
Well, long story short I corrected the problem and re-submitted the email.
------
The moral of the story is simple: ATTENTION TO DETAIL will save the day!
If I had just looked at the email before I left work (one last time) I would have seen the error and addressed the issue right away instead of leaving someone hanging all day and night long. I could have also checked the email at home but typically I don't but the nagging feeling was there. If and when that nagging feeling returns (and I am at home) I will listen to my gut and do what I can where I am. Who knows it might just salvage a contract?

50 Ways To Better Business: #33: All Play and No Work?
Does your staff give off the impression that all that they do is come to work to chit-chat and collect a pay check?
I recently was at a site and saw this happen first hand. Not all the staff was doing this but you could see a select few openly talking about something personal and nothing to do with business. In the background, moving like a very busy bee was the guy who's name was out on the company sign outside, the OWNER.
So who's to blame? The Employees? The Owner? or No One?
How about this: EVERYONE?
Yes, everyone because the boss has allowed it to happen and the employees continue to get away with it because the boss (and the office manager) have yet to put a stop to it.
Is this your workplace? Are your staff spending more time at the water-cooler than at their desks? If they are don't you think it's time to buckle down and get them back on track? After all, if they are not earning their pay then why have them around?

50 Ways To Better Business: Day 31: Planning for Change
What are the processes that you take when you are about to implement change within all your organization or a part of it?
Do you at least consult with those that are being affected?
Do you solicit feedback from outsiders, especially those that will be affected by what you are proposing?
Are you prepared to fall back if the changes are a huge failure?
All excellent questions and ALL that you should ask when you are preparing to launch something so huge (or not) or so great (or not).
Ask them, you might just be surprised at the answers.

50 Ways To Better Business: #29: A Disorganized Working Space
Speaking of getting de-stressed.
Having an organized work place is by far one of the best ways to reduce stress in the workplace.
Remember that old saying, "Everything in its place and a place for every thing."
Well, it holds true in this case. By having a clutter free and organized workplace you automatically become better at what you do.
Don't believe me? Try it. Clean your desktop and get to work. There is something about a clean desk that motivates an individual to be just that much better.
Even when you start to re-clutter your desk you feel a little something in your gut telling you not to do it but you do it any way.
That's OK, take time every week to de-clutter your desktop and get re-organized again.
Remember, a disorganized working space can be cured and all it takes is you.
